Clear information about your information
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
Cloud9.0 Pty Ltd trading as FretGOAT (we, us or our) provides the FretGOAT website and application. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit the website, create an account, practise with FretGOAT, buy a Founding Pass or contact us.
We offer FretGOAT worldwide from Australia. Privacy rights differ between countries, and we will respect rights that apply to you under applicable law.
The short version
What matters most
- FretGOAT collects the account, practice and purchase information needed to provide the service and show your progress.
- Pitch detection happens in your browser. Your raw guitar audio is not recorded or uploaded by FretGOAT.
- We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
- You can request access or correction, export your account data, or delete your account.
1. Information we collect
We collect only the information reasonably needed to provide, protect and improve FretGOAT, administer purchases and answer support requests.
- Account information, such as your email address, account identifier, account creation date and authentication or security records.
- Settings and practice configuration, including the parts of the fretboard and practice modes you choose.
- Practice and progression records, such as targets, answers, accuracy, response time, scores, lesson progress, Mastery evidence and achievements.
- Purchase and entitlement records, such as Paddle transaction references, product, price, currency, tax, refund, dispute and access status. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
- Messages and other information you choose to send when you ask for support, report a problem or provide feedback.
- Necessary technical, security and operational information. Our infrastructure providers may process IP address, browser or device details, request times, diagnostic events and similar records when delivering and protecting the service.
2. Guitar audio
FretGOAT needs microphone permission so it can listen for the pitch you play. Pitch detection runs locally in your browser. Your raw guitar audio is not recorded or uploaded by FretGOAT.
FretGOAT stores practice results derived from the exercise, such as whether the detected pitch matched the target and how long the response took. It detects pitch, not which physical string or fret produced it.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you when you register, configure practice, play exercises, make a purchase or contact us. We also receive limited account and transaction information from providers that help operate FretGOAT, including Supabase and Paddle.
4. Why we use information
We use personal information to create and secure accounts; deliver lessons and practice; calculate and display progression; remember settings; provide paid access; process and support purchases and refunds; respond to requests; prevent abuse and fraud; diagnose faults; meet legal, tax and accounting obligations; and improve the reliability and usability of FretGOAT.
Where a law requires a legal basis, we rely as appropriate on performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting FretGOAT, compliance with legal obligations, or your consent. You may withdraw consent where consent is the applicable basis, without affecting earlier lawful processing.
7. Overseas processing
We are based in Australia and make FretGOAT available worldwide. Our providers and their subprocessors may store or process information in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries where they operate. Privacy protections in those countries may differ from those where you live.
We select established providers and use contractual and technical safeguards appropriate to the information and service. Provider locations and subprocessors can change, so their current privacy notices provide the most up-to-date details.
8. How long we keep information
We generally keep account, practice and progression information while your account is active so FretGOAT can provide the service and maintain your Mastery record.
When you delete your account, FretGOAT deletes your application account data and learning history. We may retain or detach limited purchase, refund, dispute, fraud-prevention, tax, accounting and audit records where reasonably necessary to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse or verify a purchase. Providers may also retain records under their own legal obligations and retention policies.
Support and operational records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, security, dispute resolution and applicable legal requirements.
9. Access, correction, export and deletion
You can review and update available account settings in FretGOAT. You can also export the account data made available by the application in JSON format and use the authenticated account-deletion process to delete your account and learning history.
To request access to or correction of other personal information, ask a privacy question, or obtain help with deletion, email guitar@fretgoat.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
10. Younger users
People under 18 may use FretGOAT only with permission from a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian should make any Founding Pass purchase for a person under 18.
We do not ask users to provide a date of birth. We design our explanations and information practices to be understandable and data-minimising. A parent or guardian can contact us about a younger user's information, although we may need to confirm their authority and the account involved.
11. Security and data incidents
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, interference and unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a strong account credential and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
If a data incident occurs, we will investigate and notify affected people and regulators where required by applicable law.
12. Questions and privacy complaints
Contact us first at guitar@fretgoat.com or by post at PO Box 37, Coogee NSW 2034, Australia. Please describe your concern and how we can contact you. We will investigate and respond within a reasonable period.
If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the privacy regulator in your country where applicable.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when FretGOAT, our providers or applicable laws change. We will post the updated policy here and change the last-updated date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice or request consent where required.
